55-yr-old teacher sat for exams for the 9th time

By clearing three more subjects in the Class X Uttar Pradesh Board examinations this year, a 55-year-old primary school teacher from Allahabad has successfully managed to pass 58 subjects till date. Fighting the fear of examinations in his own novel way, Ram Lakhan Yadav has appeared
9 times in High School and 14 times in Intermediate examinations of the UP Board. In all, he has cleared 58 subjects.
This year, he had appeared in three subjects — agriculture, tailoring and social science. Born in Allahabad's Sarai Sultanpur village, Yadav is a government teacher at Purva Madhyamik Vidhyalaya, which falls under the Baharia block. A graduate in history, political science and philosophy, he has six children — three sons and three daughters.
"I am disappointed over the callous attitude of the government and the education department officials. Nobody has appreciated my work, which has become a source of inspiration for students and their guardians," said Yadav.
"I thought of this idea not only to make people aware of the importance of education but also to mitigate the fear of examinations among students. I appeared for Class X exams for the first time in 1986 and cleared English, geography and sanskrit. Initially, people called me insane. Earlier, there used to be 20 to 30 children in the school where I teach. Now, it has around 250 students," he added.
Appearing for exams every year, Yadav has till now cleared 23 subjects in High School and 35 subjects in Intermediate. This includes physics, chemistry, maths, English, biology, history, home science, Urdu, dance, education, defence study, painting, music and psychology. He also cleared all subjects from biology and mathematics groups in 1990 and 1995. "Yadav has been taking permission to appear for the examinations. The department has been contemplating to honour him for his efforts. I would take up the matter with the Board officials," said Basic Shiksha Adhikari Brijesh Mishra.
