Billionaire media mogul Oprah Winfrey has given staff at her magazine $10,000 (£6,700) each and an Apple iPad.
"As a thank you for their hard work and
dedication, Oprah Winfrey surprised the staff of O, The Oprah Magazine
with an Apple iPad and a check for $10,000, to commemorate the
magazine's 10th anniversary," a magazine spokesman said.
Reports from the US said that each Apple
iPad came with a leather case engraved with the staffer's initials. All
staffers received the gift, regardless of how long they had worked
there.
The total number of staff members who received the
gifts was not released.
Winfrey is known for handing out lavish
gifts.
In 2004, Winfrey celebrated the 22nd season of "The Oprah
Winfrey Show" by surprising 276 members of her studio audience with
brand new Pontiac G6 sport sedans courtesy of General Motors.
"You
get a car, you get a car, you get a car," Winfrey famously said.
She
has also given her staff all-expenses-paid holidays to the
Mediterranean and Hawaii.
The popular US television talk show host
plans to end "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 2011 after 25 years to set up
her own cable TV network.
The top-rated daytime show is broadcast
from Chicago on ABC television stations across the United States and in
more than 140 countries. It has helped Winfrey amass a fortune estimated
by Forbes magazine at $2.3 billion.www.telegraph.co.uk/news
