Hyderabad, May 19 (PTI)
Eight-year-old Rajitha, an orphan who was allegedly beaten up
mercilessly by a couple with whom she worked as domestic help in
Mahabubnagar district, has been shifted to Osmania General Hospital here
for a surgery. Ranjitha, was last month admitted to a government
hospital in Mahabubnagar after being "battered and bruised" by her
employers and was severely malnutritioned, officials said.
"Rajitha was shifted to Niloufer hospital in Hyderabad from Mahabubnagar
on May 13, from where she has now been referred to Osmania General
Hospital for a surgery to be carried out on her left hand elbow joint
injury," an official of the Women and Child Development Department told
PTI over phone from Mahabubnagar. Rajitha was admitted to a Residential
Bridge Course (RBC) centre, run by one Premnath, at Bhutpur in the
district a few years ago.Premnath shut the centre about six months ago for alleged want of funds from the government. All the inmates except Rajitha and two other minor orphans returned to their parents.
Premnath sent Rajitha to Bhutpur as a domestic servant in the house of one Narayana where he and wife allegedly beat her mercilessly as she could not do the household work assigned to her, resulting in broken bones. Following a complaint by officials of the Women and Child Development department, the trio were arrested on May 8 and sent in judicial remand.
