Hyderabad Temperature
HYDERABAD: The city's day
temperature
came down drastically on Thursday recording 30.1 degree Celsius. From
Wednesday's 34.3 degrees and last week's maximum temperature of 44.5
degrees,
the cyclone-induced rains and cloudy weather led to dipping of
temperatures
giving the city a rather non-summer feel.
Officials from the Met
department said that the city temperature had dropped by as much as 12
degrees
over the last one week due to the cyclone, which drove away last week's
sweltering heat wave conditions that prevailed until Tuesday. This cool
break,
courtesy Laila, would continue for the next two days, the Met department
predicted.
However, the temperature would swing back to the May
average of 39 degree Celsius once the cyclone departs.
Officials said
that cyclones had struck the state during the summers of 1990 and 1994.
While
last year, Cyclone Aila had struck during the onset of monsoon and was
one of
the contributing factors for delaying the monsoon by a month, Cyclone
Laila is
different, the weathermen say.
"Aila had taken away all the moisture
from the land. But Laila has not taken the moisture but brought rain to
the land
and it is a good sign for the ensuing monsoon," said R V Subba Rao,
assistant
meteorologist, Met department, Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, the showers on
Thursday led to many trees getting uprooted in several areas. Huge trees
fell on
the road and electricity lines. Complaints of trees falling were
reported from
Padmarao Nagar, Nallakunta, Dabeerpura, Shah Ali Banda, Kalyan Nagar
(Phase I),
Dharam Karam Road and Ashok Nagar to the GHMC's emergency wing till late
evening.
