Harsh words: Sir Alex Ferguson's grandson Jake, 19, said Moyes was out of his depth at Old Trafford
All smiles: Jake (back left) with Ferguson and the rest of the grandchildren at the end of last season
Incoming! Ryan Giggs has been handed the job on an interim basis until the end of the season
Sir Alex Ferguson remains silent on the departure of David Moyes but a family member has provided the first indication of his views, after his grandson Jake claimed that the sacked Glaswegian was ‘out of his depth’ at Manchester United.
Jake Ferguson, 19, this morning retweeted the confirmation from Manchester United that Ryan Giggs would be appointed as interim manager following the club’s decision to sack Moyes after a traumatic first season in charge.
Ferguson junior then wrote on his Twitter account, in reference to Moyes: ‘Nice guy, just out of his depth.
Jake, who is a student at university, often attends matches with Sir Alex and accompanied him to the Sports Personality of the Year awards in December.
Sir Alex Ferguson has received sustained criticism this season for his role in anointing Moyes as his successor, with the appointment proving to be one of the greatest misjudgements of the modern era.
It is understood that the club will undergo a more pragmatic recruitment process as they set about securing their next manager and Ferguson is likely to have little say in the decision.
The decision to relieve Moyes of his duties has been taken by the club’s owners, the Glazer family, after the meek surrender to Everton on Sunday afternoon, although it is thought that the serious doubts started to emerge over their manager’s suitability following the team’s dreadful performance in a 2-0 defeat by Olympiacos in February.
Moyes was informed of his fate in a face-to-face meeting with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward on Tuesday morning, following newspaper reports of his impending departure twenty-four hours earlier.
