Failure in exam drives footballer to suicide
BANGALORE: A young footballer who
drank poison over his failure in PU exams died here on Sunday.
M Manjunath (19), a student of Baldwin College, was the younger son of Murthy, a resident of Vasanthnagar. He was told on Friday that he had passed the exams. An elated Manjunath distributed sweets to friends in the locality. Later he came to know that the person who had passed was a different Manjunath, and he had failed in one subject. Heartbroken, Manjunath consumed poison at his house.
He was admitted to Jain Hospital where he was operated upon but died on Sunday morning. Manjunath was playing for the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and attending the state under-19 football camp. Manjunath will be cremated on Monday at the Kalpally crematorium.
