Messi has declared that he is embarrassed to be compared to World Cup
winning legend and current coach Diego
Maradona.
TheBarcelona forward and
current FIFA World Player of the Year is regularly judged against the
abilities of the past master Maradona but Messi says he doesn't like the
comparisons, labelling them an "offence" to 'El Pelusa'.
The talismanic 22-year-old also declared that he still has to prove himself at a World Cup finals to be considered amongst the greats.
"I do not like it. I'm embarrassed that I get compared to Diego. It's an offence [to him]. To be the best player in the world I have to prove it at the World Cup," Messi is quoted as saying by Sport before adding that he is proud to represent the Albicelestes.
"I am Argentine and I like to play for my country."

West Ham United To Appoint Avram Grant As Manager Next Week - Report
West Ham United will reportedly appoint Avram Grant as manager of the club next week.
The owners of the east London outfit, David Gold and David Sullivan, have zeroed in on the Israeli as the successor to Gianfranco Zola, according to The Mirror.
The Italian was sacked following a rocky season that saw the Hammers just about ensure survival, and the club then went on to issue a 10-point plan that listed the first priority as being the appointment of a new gaffer.
It has been reported that former Chelsea boss Grant will begin his duties on Tuesday, and will formally be unveiled as the manager of the club on Wednesday.
Croatia manager Slaven Bilic was also believed to be in the running, but Grant is said to have been the unanimous choice at Upton Park.
