A 24-year-old man was burnt alive by a group of people over a land
dispute in Rajasthan's Banswara district, leading to tension in the
area, police said on Saturday Sarma was running a small kiosk set up on a
disputed piece of land in Rail village. Unidentified persons on Friday
entered into an argument with Sarma and pushed him inside the kiosk and
set it ablaze, SP, Banswara, Mr Gajanand Sharma told PTI over phone.
Police have arrested three accused involved in the murder. The situation
in the tribal area is tense as the family of the victim wants to
perform a local tradition known as 'Mautana' to avenge the killing.
"Relatives of Sarma are adamant to perform Mautana, an illegal practice
in which family members of the victim put the body outside the home of
the accuser to take revenge or penalty," he said. Extra forces have been
deployed to prevent them to do so and police and district
administration official are camping in the area to monitor and maintain
law
and order situation, Verma said.
