UAE residents may soon be able to pay their bills and fines through smartphone apps, officials revealed.
A new iPhone app developed by Dubai eGovernment will allow users to pay electricity and water bills, traffic fines and recharge their Salik (road toll) account through a simple tap of a screen, UAE daily The National reported.
The app has already been submitted to Apple's App Store with officials hoping to launch it soon after Gitex Technology Week scheduled for Oct 14 -18 this year.
Similar apps for Android, Blackberry and other phones are also in development, the report said.
Residents can currently pay fines and bills electronically using the online ePay system and mobile mPay service.
Revenues from digital payments went up 22 per cent to AED 3.2 billion ($8,712,448) in the past nine months of the year, up from AED 2.6 billion ($7078864) during the same period last year, Dubai eGovernment said
